Herbs and Supplements

There is much we do not know about this area, but I am convinced that I, a very chemically sensitive person, survived the rigors of chemotherapy soley because of the knowledgeable care of Dr Shauna Birdsall of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. It was she, as you will read below, I turned to for resources. I took note that research of current information via Pub Med is advisable.

Hi Ethlyne,

So good to hear from you. You will always find different information on supplements unfortunately, as there is still conflicting data. The following are good resources, in regards to cancer:

  1. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center "About Herbs" Database (provides evidence-based information about herbs, botanicals, and supplements).
  2. American Cancer Society-Complementary and Alternative Therapies.
  3. National Cancer Institute Complementary and Alternative Medicine Summaries-Physician Data Query (PDQ)
  4. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

As far as supplements in general, http://www.naturaldatabase.com is a good resource (but is not free), as is http://www.naturalstandard.com/

I am constantly looking at pubmed for my resource, as I always review all of the research and make a decision based on that, but it is tedious and time consuming.

Hope this helps!!

Take care,
